Devotion. Isolation. Brute, anthemic tales. All of this encapsulated in the fervent dread of a fiend, shaken by passion.

Des Moines, Iowa’s Love Songs For Lonely Monsters (LS4LM or Love Songs for short) have been wrapping deep, umbral guitars and zealous pulsating rhythms with the celestial vocals of the ever-enchanting Amy Badger since forming in late 2009. Upon inspection, it is possible for the listener to peel back the layers of Fugazi and Gang of Four-inspired post-punk aggression to find a heart within the madness; a soul purposefully melodic, maintaining a phenomenal pop sensibility.

After playing together in various musical projects since their teenage years, Nick Parks started Love Songs For Lonely Monsters with his good friend and former guitarist Justin Niceswanger. A chance encounter with bassist Chris Lachky and drummer Brian Gellerman in the fall of 2009 filled out the rhythm section and Amy Badger soon rounded out the quartet on vocals. After three years of writing music and playing locally, Neiswanger left the group. He was replaced on guitar in early 2013 by Kevin Neal.

Since their inception, Love Songs for Lonely Monsters has honed their craft and cemented themselves as one of the best live acts in the midwest, opening for such acts as Bob Mould, Deerhoof, and Purity Ring. In 2012, they were honored by winning Iowa Public Radio’s Play-In contest for the 80/35 Music Festival, and as such, played the main stage alongside -- among others -- Fucked Up, Dinosaur Jr, and Death Cab for Cutie. They have completed their first LP, recorded at Neal’s Redd7 Studios, and plan on a late winter/early spring release, and are currently booking shows in and around the Midwest in support.
