"Pigs and Clover is a musical project and a way of life. Native Iowan singer-songwriters, Matt and Jamie (Fredericksen) Kearney met while students at the University of Iowa.
"Getting off the grid, keeping bees, shunning T.V. to pick and sing with friends, rescuing stray Pomeranians - these are a few of their favorite things.
"Matt grew up in Storm Lake, IA, the youngest of 4 siblings. He played trumpet in school jazz band and later switched to electric bass. He started songwriting with friends, usually singing and detasseling corn in the summertime. After high school, he played bass in bands in Northwest Iowa (The Perpetrators) and Colorado. He earned degrees in piano technology and electronics. Now Matt plays bass, guitar, banjo, mouth harp, jaw harp, piano and anything that isn't nailed down. He bicycles to his day job, and prefers barter over the exchange of fiat currency.
"Jamie hails from Clinton, IA, the oldest of three siblings. She plays acoustic guitar, drums and clawhammer banjo. Jamie wrote poetry for 3 semesters upon admission to the University of Iowa's Undergraduate poetry workshop and started writing songs as a member of the late 90's IC rock band, The Janet Theory. In 2014, she fulfilled a lifetime dream and traveled to Bolivia as a Paralegal member of a delegation of the National Lawyers Guild. Jamie's pet peeves include mushy apples and mechanical pencils.
"Pigs and Clover believe in the power of art to influence thought and inspire action, in the great tradition of American protest music. They find inspiration in a vibrant global community of workers, organizers, artists and activists, all fighting for social justice. But don’t pigeon-hole them as simply protest singers. They write and sing all kinds of songs about the human experience on planet Earth: however funny, sweet, sad, ironic, desperate or profound."
