This is just another in our long series of playlists. And like the name says, this one features the latest music by Iowa artists that I could find on Bandcamp. It features a blend of experimental, metal, instrumental, and electronic music, with a punk tune as well!
This originally started out as a blog to provide more details about the music on Iowa Music Showcase.. But now it also features tags that have to do more with the individual artists and bands.

IMSC Ep 20 - Song 6: "Building a Better Mars" by Calous / Joe Corigliano on Jimi
"I joined Calous in '03. Soon after, we started playing The House Of Bricks when it was on Merle Hay.
"Jimi was the soundman at that time. The band and him hit it off instantly. Who knew it only took a shot of Jager? He quickly became Calous' 6th man. Or 8th man since we had 7 (soon to be 5) in the band at the time.
"He's been a loyal fan and a good friend ever since. He even owns a coveted, and very limited edition, personalized Calous hockey jersey for being that fan and friend. Calous and I love Jimi and will do anything for that guy!"
- from Joe Corigliano for this podcast/blog
"Calous is a high energy rock band from Des Moines, Iowa. Their focus is drive. Their drive is passion. Uncompromising passion is the focus of this band and undying will is the foundation.
"Always seemingly unaware of the trends and avoiding the prosaic trappings of the times, Calous is a seasoned band of 10 years with tour experience and hundreds of shows under their belt. Calous is a band who appeals to hard rock, metal, and alternative rock fans world wide. Calous has put in the time, and are ready to take their brand of rock to the next level."
- from their Facebook page
"Midwest based and Jagermeisters’ own, Calous is a seasoned metal machine with 10 plus years of tour experience, and hundreds of shows under their belt. The Calous sound appeals to hard rock, metal, and alt rock fans worldwide. With catchy vocals and bruising rhythms, these guys are set for continual professional expansion."

IMSC Ep 15 - Song 3: "Blind Eyes" by Apathy Syndrome
"Apathy Syndrome is the personification of filth - a contagion welling up in the shadows of Des Moines. First and foremost, Apathy Syndrome prides themselves on a live show with intensity that is unrivaled - a genuine experience to accompany the blistering brutality of their sound. They are comprised of bastards and nobodies that came together to make music that decries the monstrosity that is life and human interaction.
"An Apathy Syndrome live show reaches beyond amplified notes and sounds - it is, in itself, a breathing, wretched organism. The raw, carnal energy that pulses and pours from the stage severs the claustrophobic compartments of the psyche. They are the scalpel...
"(They) began to tear the city of Des Moines limb from limb in January of 2013 and poured countless hours of hard work and dedication into becoming an established force. Many sleepless nights were had not only constructing and perfecting the music but actually creating what is seen on stage. Apathy Syndrome strives to put the 'show' back in metal show."

IMSC Ep 15 - Song 4: "Glass Ghost" by Devil in the Details
"Devil in the Details exploded into the Omaha, NE music scene in early 2014 with the release of their first music video in January, and a debut performance to an over-capacity crowd at Omaha's Sokol Underground in April. In less than a year of performing, Devil in the Details have played all across the midwest, sharing the stage with various post-hardcore and metalcore acts including For All Those Sleeping, Secrets, Dance Gavin Dance, Alive Like Me, and Defeat the Low. In 2014, Devil in the Details released an EP, including the single "Live to Tell" mastered by Tom Denney (Ex-A Day To Remember), made it to the top 10 in Hot Topic’s national 'Battle of the Bands' competition, and released four music videos. Those videos include a playthrough of the recording of 'Consequence', a lyric video for 'Drifter', and a creative production of their first single, 'Live to Tell'. Their debut EP, 'Black and White,' was released in September 2014 along with a live performance video of the album’s title track.
"Devil in the Details offer living proof that raw emotion and an electric onstage presence can propel you to the top of the local music scene. The members of Devil in the Details came together with a shared goal of creating extraordinary music and using that music to connect with people. Each member of the band came to the table with experience earned while performing with other local bands. Taking influence from Underoath, Like Moths to Flames, Architects, and many others, Devil in the Details set out to become one of the hardest-working, most successful post-hardcore bands in the Midwest."

Ep 15 - Song 5: "Motives" by Saul
"'Rise as Equals' is the slogan surrounding the release of Saul's new ep, 'The Touching of Parallels'. Rise: a degree of elevation, Equals: not above or below but eye to eye. These words are bringing people together in hoards due to its power and realization of achievement. You're only as good as your word is fine, but they believe you are only as good as the deeds you perform. Connect with people and help the world succeed in all facets. We are more than brothers, closer than enemies, stay loyal as one, and 'Rise as Equals.'
"Saul is based out of Sioux City, IA and consists of three members Blake Bedsaul (bass/lead vocals), Zach Bedsaul (guitar/backing vocals), and Adam Chilton (drums/percussion). Being based out of Sioux City, IA has its advantages. Saul is the heart that pushes the raw emotions to the coasts, and throughout the world. February of 2014 Saul took the show on the road. Touring from Iowa through South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Washington and Back. September 2014 Saul continued hitting the road through Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Both tours proved to be a great success for the band."

IMSC Ep 15 - Song 6: "Patriot" by Dead Horse Trauma
Dead Horse Trauma is a 5-headed war machine dedicated to infecting the masses with procedures and tactics used by our world to feed us the lies we are spoon-fed since before we can crawl. It's the exposure of the perversity and falsities we are subliminally directed by. It's your wake-up call, or the means to your end."

IOWA MUSIC SHOWCASE PODCAST - Episode 4: Iowa Metal Music
On this Valentine's Day weekend, we do a 180 from last time, and showcase some recent metal music from our fair state! Because what more's metal than the risk of getting your heart ripped to shreds! Yeah!
And, yes, IMSC can jump from hip-hop to metal! That's the way we roll, folks!
But seriously, Iowa metal, like Iowa hip-hop, is a thriving, if often neglected, scene! And, a surprise to some people, even Iowans, our metal scene is more than just Slipknot!
All the tunes here were sent in when I sent out word of doing a metal show on Facebook. Your music, metal or any different genre, can joined this esteem group! Just send an audio file or link to a free download to iowamusicshowcase@gmail.com!

IMSC Ep 4 - Song 2: "The Mirror Never Lies" by Unity
"Unity is a Melodic Power metal band from Iowa. It was formed in November 2010 by Alonso “Zo” Donoso. Alonso decides to leave his previous band and start a new musical project. Zo’s idea was to create music that was more European oriented and Melodic, yet powerful and raw.
"Unity’s music could be described as Melodic Heavy Metal with European Power Metal influences. Unity takes influences from different bands and backgrounds to create something fresh but yet classic with catchy riffs and powerful melodies."
