Ep 26 - Song 1: "October Falls Take 1" by Peace, Love, and Stuff

After moving to Ames in 2007 to study journalism and mass communication at Iowa State University, Boyle met engineering student and multi-instrument master David Smit in a dorm hallway, and thus birthed a music relationship that continues today in The Most Handsome Duo in the World and Risky Revival.

Smit and Boyle formed Max Power and the Freeman Threemen that year – named after Freeman Hall, where all four members lived, and the absence of knowing the lead singers last name when signing up for a battle of the bands. Although Max Power fizzled after getting busted a few too many times playing keg parties at Boyle’s brother’s apartment, Smit and Boyle continued to play together as an acoustic blues duo, and went on to win the 2010 Iowa Solo-Duo Blues Challenge and represent the state in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis as The Most Handsome Duo.

During this time, Smit and Boyle met Joseph David Soukup and he introduced them to Lavonne McRoberts. The duo eventually joined Jojo and McRoberts in Peace, Love and Stuff and recorded a debut EP, “La Bohemia,” in 2010.

After graduating in the summer of 2011, Boyle quit his boring-yet-cushy job as a public relations videographer and spent six weeks of the summer as the touring guitar player for the Ames-based Mumford’s, an experience shared with the Rabalais brother’s of Fairfield’s Utopia Park that gave him a renewed faith in the compassion of the human race.

Since then, Boyle has focused on playing guitar in Peace, Love and Stuff, and started performing solo blues shows around Ames and Des Moines. Boyle’s return to solo blues renewed a love for Eastern Iowa blues and a deep love for the work of fellow Burlington native Bo Ramsey.

The story I heard about Lavonne was that Peace, Love, and Stuff was in a battle of the bands at the Veisha festival in Ames. For some reason, only JoJo made the show. So they grabbed Dylan and Smitty and told them they were in the band!

This song is from some demos they did. You can find them on SoundClick. They're the same songs as their first album, "La Bohemia". And the music is better on "La Bohemia". But if you're a completist, you can find them here - http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1081575

Ep 26 - Song 2: "Sexy Vintage Boy" by Peace, Love, and Stuff

Peace Love and Stuff originally formed to back Lavonne for a solo project; the band then evolved into just that -- a band.

Since then, PLS has been busy writing and performing. They have recorded at Sun Studio in Memphis, TN, and the A.R.K in Ames, IA, and at Capp Studio in Iowa.

The latest project has been that of their first E.P. entitled "La Bohemia" recorded at Capp Studio by Steve Capp and Jamie Steppe.

Ready to blast your socks off, Peace, Love, and Stuff is infused with influences ranging from Roots Rock to 80's Power Ballads to 90's grunge to form their own unique sound. Fused with drums pounding with energy and punch, lyrics that will leave you singing, bass that will get you grooving, and lyrical guitar licks that get you dancing; Peace, Love, and Stuff is: presented to you, about you, and for you.

IMSC Ep 26 - Song 3: "Je Recherche" by Peace, Love, and Stuff

This is a four song EP (technically 5 songs, with two versions of the beautiful ballad “Oktober Falls”) released a couple of years ago, but it still showcases a lot of what PLS is capable of. The incredibly gifted guitar work of Dylan Boyle and the country and western charm of Lavonne McRoberts is really apparent on this release, and those are for sure the big selling points of PLS. Beyond “Oktober Falls”, the track “Sexy Vintage Boy” is a cool late 1970’s style country track and “Purple Lightning” has just incredible guitar work. Highly Recommended.

Ep 26 - Song 4: "Purple Lightning" (live and acoustic) by Peace, Love, and Stuff

Listening to Peace, Love And Stuff makes me want to chug a big glass of ice tea, and jump around all crazy like. They have a fantastic, rustic sound that makes it impossible to resist tapping your toe. Their tunes will make you smile.

Ep 26 - Song 5: "Paper Bracelets" by Peace, Love, and Stuff

Playing with Peace, Love, and Stuff was a roller coaster. Sometimes, it was a jumbled mess of incoherent sounds that was frustrating to be a part of. Other times, we clicked on level beyond consciousness. Overall, it was a lot of fun.

Strong Like Bear used to play a lot of shows with Peace, Love, and Stuff when they first erupted onto the stage of the Ames local music scene. We had a lot of fun every time, with Dylan usually dressed in his pajamas, and the beer flowed like a river.

I worked with the band a bit in the studio, recording some things, and they were just musical monsters, capable of anything. They'd leap from a 50's song to a metal song to rockabilly, and destinations in between, nailing anything they threw themselves at. I think they were trying to develop a cohesive voice during that period, and it was fantastic to watch the evolution.

Part of finding their voice meant trying out different things, and different band members, but it always seemed to be getting generally closer to Lavonne's vision for the band, and her growing prowess as a singer and songwriter.

It's a shame to see the band split, but I have every level of confidence that everyone will go on to create some amazing music. It's what keeps their blood pumping.

Ep 26 - Song 8: "Johnny Bravo" by Peace, Love, and Stuff

My time in the band was incredible. So many great experiences that you only get by performing on stage with a group of talented people who know how to have fun and be exceptional. I was very fortunate to play with one of my best friends (Lavonne) and meet Dylan who without a doubt one of the best if not the best guitar player around. These two made getting into the band and playing and making music exciting and fun.

I was always happy to be on stage and develop as a musician with them. I was also always thrilled just to spend time with the group and hang out.
